How to Compare ERP Software
If yours is a small or midsized company and you are looking into Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), you should definitely compare ERP software before making a selection. Don’t go by word of mouth on this call, it’s much too important. you will need to talk to a number of software vendors, and customers, and you will also need to see demos of the product works. This can be a time consuming process, but at the end of the day you will much closer to finding a software package that will appeal to you.
Smaller companies should seriously Web-based ERP packages, as they are easier to implement and are also less costly. Yet even with these software packages there is much to choose from. So, it’s important to have a good idea of what you are looking for, before you start making comparisons. There are so many software vendors in the marketplace today, and it can appear a bit mind boggling when trying to determine which is best for you.
Have a list of questions ready to ask the software vendors and see if you can talk to some of their customers as well. Make sure the system is user friendly and easy to work with. Be sure to ask questions about the applications modules and how they work. Find out if the system can be customized to any extent and compare ERP software demos to get an idea of how the software works. If necessary, hire a consultant for assistance, but don’t let him make the decision for you.
You will run across a lot of names, some of which you will be familiar with. Some of these software vendors will specialize in a certain industry, while others will offer packages that will work across a number of industries. Think about the features and the benefits you want you’d like and make comparisons based on how flexible the software is. You’ll need to consider your budget as well; how much can you afford to pay? Remember, Web-based packages are cost effective and can be up and running much quicker.
Don’t rush this project; it’s important that you get it right. To do that you will need to do your homework. Investigate the products of software vendors and stick with it until you find what you’re looking for. And don’t forget that demos are important when you compare ERP software.
