ERP Software

Comparison ERP Software

Successful businesses aim to run economically and get bigger profits.  One of the best ways to do both is to run ERP software. Every business needs to print invoices, track expenses, receive payments, and manage product or services. ERP software can offer these and other more specialized tools in one, powerful system. There are many different software packages on the market, and like with any other software solution, in order to find the best package, a business must do research before making a purchase.  No one ERP software system is best for all businesses.

A winning comparison process depends on a precise classification of the business and of its goals. For example, is the business small or large? What is its market focus? Does it provide products or services? And, what is the objective?  What is the reason for purchasing ERP software? When this is satisfactorily answered, a business should plan how much it is willing to spend on the new ERP. This plan needs to include the money that will be spent on implementation, employee training, and follow up support.

When these questions are answered there are a few general components of ERP Software which can also be compared. To start, the financial module should be compared based on the workings of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, cash management, financial reporting, and project accounting. Human Resources Management contains applications that can be compared, such as: personnel management, benefit management, payroll management, and health and safety. Manufacturing management includes applications for planning production, taking orders, and delivering products to the customer. Inventory Management takes into account applications for maintaining records of good, data requirements, locations and lot control, forecasting, and movements of products to and from warehouses. Applications found in purchasing management include: vendor and supplier profiles, supplier rating, requisitions, purchase orders, prices and discounts, vendor contracts, procurement reports and receipts.  ERP software can also be compared on quality management.  For example, using the criteria of defective material return processing, customer return files, damaged materials, quantities rejected, and reject reason codes.

A comparison of ERP Software evaluates the capabilities of the software.  This is important, yet a comparison of the technical mechanism that operates the software cannot be ignored. The category of technology defines the architecture of the ERP system. Criteria include product and application architecture, software administration, platform and database support, as well as integration capabilities.
