ERP Software

ERP Software Vendors

A recent survey of 400 businesses using ERP software revealed that most bought systems from the better known ERP Software Vendors. Nearly twenty percent of those surveyed cited Oracle as their organization's ERP provide;, followed by fourteen percent listing SAP and another fourteen percent listing PeopleSoft, which is owned by Oracle; Microsoft was the response for eleven percent of the companies); Infor for ten percent of them; eight percent responded JD Edwards, also owned by Oracle; six percent for Lawson; Sage Group was answered by five percent of the respondents; and QAD by two.

The survey asked all types of questions about their software solutions and about the vendors. In particular, emphasis was placed on whether the businesses believed the ERP Software Vendors were providing enough innovation and whether they were considering alternative ERP software solutions, such as those provided by SaaS and open-source applications.

One of the more surprising revelations to come out of a survey taken within the past year was that businesses look to software vendors to provide innovations which will better organize, manage, and control their organizations, as well as the importance companies place on this as one of the factors considered when choosing an ERP Software Vendor.

The number of software vendors is high. Choosing the right ERP software vendor is not an easy decision. A company has to choose a vendor who fits its parameters, ensuring that the criteria from service to cost are satisfied. Choosy customers will lead to competition among vendors thereby better, more innovative ideas and products.

Selecting the correct Software Vendor is as important as picking the ERP package. Businesses should keep in mind they are selecting a long-term partner when they choose their ERP software. The best vendors keep up with the latest technology. The last thing a business wants is to buy ERP which will soon be obsolete. A good vendor takes the time to understand the needs of the company. Worthwhile ERP Software Vendors are prepared to make individual sales pitches befitting the needs and requirements of specific companies. For example, can the vendor guarantee that ERP system will cope with the number of transactions currently being handled by the business at the desired speed? And, can it cope with company growth? Vendors should also be prepared to talk about how they train employees to adapt to the new system and what kind of maintenance agreements they offer.
