ERP Software

Working with Construction ERP Software

The construction business represents a workflow that often starts and stops. Things appear to be going well for a while and then you hit a glitch that slows the project down. It could be supply chain management, human resources, finance and accounting, on-time delivery problems, planning and scheduling, you name it; all of these things can contribute to gridlock, and require a good dose of construction ERP software. Though contractors have a schedule to meet, they often find themselves off schedule for one reason or another. They need a software package that can rise to the occasion; they need Enterprise Resource Planning.

There are a lot of touch points to consider when planning a construction project; and that goes way beyond the contractor and the customer or end user. There will be numerous details to work out during the planning and scheduling stage that include human resources, materials management, timelines, budget planning, cost control, etc. You will also be dealing with people who are not involved with the project but who may play a big role in the success of its completion. There will be partners and suppliers to work with, as well as temporary job agencies for placement of workers.

This calls for a comprehensive software package that can operate across boundaries, both internal as well as external. That calls for a good software package; one that can reach out and touch all parties involved and deliver results in real time. It would be disastrous to work with bits and pieces of software that doesn’t communicate. Construction projects are composed of many parts and pieces which all contribute to the all; it is not at all unlike the job required of construction ERP software.

This construction software package will contain a series of applications modules that cover such things as purchasing and procurement, human resource management, project management, finance and accounting, planning and scheduling, inventory control, logistics, connections to partners and suppliers, customer relationship management, … This all takes place from one platform, one communications hub, which offers available access to all authorized personnel.

This software can be accessed from the Web, online, from anywhere, and is an effective way of monitoring and managing a construction project. It gives you the means to check on progress from a number of areas. It offers you the ability to track everything from equipment and human beings, to costs and budget; and it’s all automated for the swift transmission of information and data. That’s working smart; that’s working with construction ERP software.
