On Even Ground
It never seemed fair to me how big businesses were catered to by ERP vendors and offered all the spoils. Small businesses had to make due and never received much recognition. Today, small businesses can play on even ground with big businesses thanks to SaaS (Software as a Service) and Cloud ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions. SaaS and cloud ERP solutions provide small businesses with big business functionality making small businesses more efficient and profitable than ever. SaaS and cloud Enterprise Resource Planning solutions come at a great time when all businesses are trying to recover from our recent economic recession. During this time, more than ever, small businesses need help, need to be catered to and need to be offered all the spoils that big businesses typically get.
SaaS and Cloud ERP solutions enable employees to access the software from anywhere in the big wide world as long as they have Internet access. This access can happen because data and the applications are hosted on a remote server. Another great benefit to a SaaS or Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning solutions is that they cost less than on-site proprietary Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions. Yes, even small companies can afford to purchase SaaS and Cloud ERP solutions because there are no big upfront licensing fees, no long expensive implementations, and no painful updates. Why, you ask? Well, like I said, the application resides on the vendor’s server. The application is hosted by the vendor so the vendor takes care of the maintenance. Before you jump up and down for joy, there is one downfall to SaaS ERP solutions. That downfall is that you can’t customize these solutions. You can, however, configure SaaS ERP solutions which is sometimes all small businesses need.
Another type of small business solution that is making a big hoopla is the open source ERP solution. Open source ERP solutions are free, free, free and can be customized to the hilt! Oh me, oh my…what will the big businesses do now that they aren’t the only ones being catered to? Well, they can kick and scream, but things aren’t likely to change. The small business marketing is a flourishing market and all ERP vendors want their piece of it. So, for now big businesses are going to have to be the understudies because small businesses are the stars.
