ERP Software

Get Your Executives Involved!

Enterprise Software Companies build and sell products and that is there job.  However, implementing the product is a whole other story.  Approximately sixty percent of all software implementations have some sort of problem.  Some common problems are; the project takes too long, the project goes over budget, or the software didn’t perform as imagined.  Of course, there are several other problems associated with software implementations and the Enterprise Software Company is not always at fault.  In fact, many companies have reported that there were problems with their software implementations due to the fact that their executives were not involved.  Executives drive the force of the company and give weight to a software implementation project.  It’s essential to have executives involved in the entire software selection and implementation processes.

Enterprise Software Companies don’t know your business as well as you do.  Therefore, you are responsible for the success of a software implementation.  Being involved and available is key. Having a dedicated selection and implementation team is essential too.  We all have our “main jobs” to perform and selecting a software solution and implementing that solution doesn’t always take precedence.  If a software solution does not take precedence over all other work, you are sure to experience some sort of problem with the implementation.  If your company doesn’t have the bandwidth to spare full time employees so that they may focus on selecting and implementing a software solution, then it’s a good idea to hire outside assistance.  A third party vendor will help you select and implement a software solution and take some of the pressure off your employees.  However, someone has to be dedicated to the third party vendor.  That way, communication is constant and clear.

Enterprise Software Companies want to sell you a good solution.  These companies want you to implement that solution without any problems and they want you to be happy with the functionality.  Enterprise Software Companies are on your side, but they also have to make a profit.  The salespeople need to make their quotas, the managers need to meet their quarterly expectations, and the executives need to drive the company to successes in order to keep their jobs.  So, even though Enterprise Software Companies want their customers to prosper with their software solutions, these companies want first to be profitable themselves.  This means that the customer will always be number two and the Enterprise Software Company will always be number one.
