ERP Implementations

Successful Enterprise Resource Planning Software Implementations

In order for your ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning software implementation to be successful, it should be driven by executives.  Studies indicate that ERP software implementations that are not actively supported and led by business leaders are more frequently associated with problems or the ERP project fails completely.  If you are considering implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning software solution, make sure you get buy in from the top so that you have a better chance of making your ERP project a success.

When executives drive projects, like an Enterprise Resource Planning implementation, with a hands on approach employees tend to support the ERP project more so when compared to ERP projects that are not led with hands on executives.  Recently, a company called TNG Worldwide implemented one of SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions.  The success of the ERP implementation was directly related to the active and engaged executive team.  Without an executive team leading an Enterprise Resource Planning software implementation, the ERP project may have more of a chance of losing its direction.  Because Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions are the most expensive IT item some companies spend money on, it’s important that they are successful.

Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions tend to be more successful when they are implemented in phases.  A phased ERP approach may consist of implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning solution by module or by department.  The phases in which an Enterprise Resource Planning solution is implemented is completely up to the customer.  Phased ERP implementations often mean less downtime for the customer.  The approach you take to implement an Enterprise Resource Planning solution may have a huge bearing on the results of the ERP implementation. It is most important to plan plan and plan some more for the Enterprise Resource Planning implementation.  Having a good game plan in place will better prepare you for the unexpected.  Remember that not all businesses realize well planned and implemented Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.  More often than not something arises that was unplanned for.  It’s a good idea to pad your budget for these unpleasant and unplanned ERP implementation issues.  If need be, hire consulting services from the Enterprise Resource Planning vendor, or a third party vendor, to help out with the ERP implementation.
