ERP Software

Custom ERP Software

Sometimes companies want to customize their own enterprise set up; they want to determine the mix of applications modules and how they will be arranged on the enterprise platform. They can do that with custom ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software which is designed to meet their demands. This involves mapping out how the organization is structured, and how business processing is conducted. It means tweaking the software so that it accommodates the particular needs of the organization. This could mean the whole re-working of data administration procedures, including reporting, queries, and data input-output forms.  Customization requires more attention to detail from the enterprise software vendor.

The vendor must ensure that it can place and fit the software as desired by the business. This may involve taking an enterprise software package and building into it customized processes that meet the needs of the organization. There may not be a need to change or alter the software package completely, but rather to make adjustments in how the software operates. Of course the software package has to be flexible enough to withstand alterations made to it. Then too, an organization that wishes to customize its ERP package must realize that there are limits within doing so.

The better idea is to take an ERP package and make adjustments that the software can accommodate, without losing out on the best practices principles that define the software.
Otherwise, Custom ERP Software could be a very expensive proposition. That could require that you get an enterprise software vendor to build you a package from the ground up, and that is not cheap. So it would be better to work within the structure of the ERP package to facilitate customization.

Open Source ERP systems can supply an organization or consultant with the source code; this of course would make it easier to make changes than otherwise and offers more advantages. You can do things like make future changes as your business requirements change; you can facilitate data imports from outside sources such as partners, suppliers or customers; you can integrate more business processes onto the platform; you can include more customized reporting capabilities. Open Source systems offer the flexibility of greater customization.

For small and midsized businesses there may not be the need for much customization. The enterprise resource planning software package you choose should be broad and flexible enough to handle your needs. Custom ERP Software is for those companies who are willing to pay for the privilege.
