Oh Me..Oh My…A Progressive Federal Government???

The United States Federal government is becoming more and more progressive as we embark on the year 2011.  Perhaps the Federal government made a new year’s resolution to be more progressive, perhaps the Federal government agencies were visited in their sleep by the ghost of Christmas past, or perhaps the Federal government is simply being brave.  Whatever the cause, the United States Federal government created a group called the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FEDRAMP), which will be responsible for rolling out the use of Enterprise Software Solutions in the form of a Cloud computing solution.  FEDRAMP will roll out Cloud Enterprise Software Solutions for all eligible agencies within the Federal government.  Those of you who just fell off your chair, please remount and read on!

The FEDRAMP has plans to provide a standardized procedure to assess and okay the implementation of a Cloud Enterprise Software Solution for all eligible Federal agencies.   Of course every agency in the Federal government is quite different and has different types of security requirements, which is why each agency will have to be assessed and okay’d before implementing a Cloud Enterprise Software Solution.  To accelerate this program, FEDRAMP has joined forces with the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA).

These two groups, FEDRAMP and SIIA, are working together to make the United States Federal government a progressive cloud Enterprise Software Solution using government. 
Not only is this great news for United States Federal government employees and the agency as a whole, but Cloud vendors should jump up and down for joy as they will get more business.  Of course they will have to wine and dine the folks in the Federal government to get selected as the Federal government’s Cloud Enterprise Software Solution vendor.  But, overall it’s a win win situation for both parties.  Often times government is behind in current technology trends.  Being behind in current technology trends puts the Federal government at a disadvantage.  Federal government employees can’t be as efficient or effective in their roles with old and out-dated software.  With the Federal government purchasing a Cloud Enterprise Software Solution, the agency should become more efficient.  And, purchasing a Cloud Enterprise Software Solution will also help to stimulate the United States economy.  Stimulating the economy will help it to recover from the recent United States recession.
