ERP SoftwareSAP Acquires an Enterprise Security Software SolutionSecurity is a vital part of enterprise software. Enterprise security software comes as individual or stand alone solutions or with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software solutions. In recent news SAP, who is one of the top ERP vendors, has decided to acquire a Swiss based company called SECUDE. SECUDE makes a security software product. This security software product will further enhance SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning product’s security capabilities. SAP will get quite a bit out of the deal as they will be able to enhance their ERP products with secure login functionality and single sign-on functionality. For all of you that have an SAP Enterprise Resource Planning product or plan to implement one, SAP will provide you with secure login functionality free of cost once the SECUDE acquisition is complete. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by the end of February 2011. By enhancing SAP’s ERP with enterprise security software customers can better protect themselves from hackers and other related criminal activity. This enterprise security software addition comes at a time when it is most needed. The down economy has made people desperate and created even more criminal related activity. And, this acquisition helps SAP better compete with companies like Oracle who already have this type of enterprise security software. Because the economy is recovering from a recession, competition in the Enterprise Resource Planning market is fierce. Perhaps this enterprise security software solution will boost SAP ERP sales a bit. SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning vendor known for creating their applications from the ground up. They are not the type of company that goes about acquiring software constantly to create a solution. However, the acquisition of SECUDE isn’t the first security software acquisition in the history of SAP. SAP acquired two security software related companies years ago. These companies were called Virsa Systems MaXware. While SAP acquires some software companies to enhance their Enterprise Resource Planning products, they are nothing compared to all of Oracle’s acquisitions. Oracle has probably acquired more software companies for their Enterprise Resource Planning product than any other ERP vendor on the market today. Acquiring other companies to create an Enterprise Resource Planning solution is not a bad thing. It surely placed Oracle on top of the ERP world. And, Microsoft followed in Oracle’s footsteps by acquiring companies and creating their Enterprise Resource Planning products, which are doing quite well in terms of sales. |
