Comparing Enterprise Software Companies

A big part of discovering Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is comparing enterprise software companies; and there are quite a few of these companies to choose from. Some offer industry specific solutions, while others offer a suite of applications modules that can be applied to any business. These companies are all about system wide management that crosses all boundaries of the business and includes external connections as well. Going the ERP route means re-engineering your management objectives and changing the way you do business. If you are seriously considering deploying an ERP software package you will have already done your homework and know specifically what you’re looking for.

If yours is a small or midsized company you will probably be better off going with a Web-based ERP package. These are less expensive because you will be paying subscription fees based on the number of users. You won’t have to worry about on-site servers or storage, because everything will be Web-based and managed by your software vendor; and that should translate into fewer headaches for you. if you are a small company, you may only need a limited number of applications modules for things such as accounting, sales and marketing, project management, inventory, purchasing, distribution, or customer relationship management, for example.

Going with a Web-based vendor will help you to narrow down your options much quicker and select a vendor that most closely meets your needs. A most definite part of your selection process should be the requirement of a demo of the product. This will give you a much better idea of how the software will work and what you can expect in its execution. This is where you need to pay strict attention to detail in your comparisons of the different enterprise software companies; this is where you take smart notes.

As you make comparisons you will discover differences, options, as well as conveniences that you’ll like; but remember to stay focused on the software package that would be best for your business. Also consider how you want your applications modules set up; would you like them to be stand alone or bundled?

If you find a package that you like, find out if other of the vendor’s customers are using it and how they feel about it. You can also contact a consultant if necessary. The process of finding and selecting enterprise software companies for your finalist list need not be an arduous task; it can in fact be very educational.
