ERP SystemsJD Edwards’ ERP System is Still Going StrongOracle acquired JD Edwards when they acquired PeopleSoft in 2005. PeopleSoft had already acquired JD Edwards in 2003. PeopleSoft took JD Edwards’ ERP system, formerly called OneWorld, and renamed the product EnterpriseOne. Today, in 2011, the JD Edwards ERP system is called Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. And, Oracle has been quite prosperous with this solution. JD Edwards started out in Colorado in 1977. The company was founded by a man named Jack Thompson. The JD Edwards ERP system solution was built and intended for small and medium sized businesses at the time. This home grown ERP solution is quite versatile as it allows customers to select any database, hardware, and operating system to meet customer needs. Oracle plans to provide a lifetime of support services for all JD Edwards products. JD Edwards ERP system offers several modules. Today, the solution can handle any medium sized business as well as large enterprises. Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has evolved into a robust Enterprise Resource Planning system with extensive functionality. This solution focuses on the needs of the manufacturing industry, distribution industry, service industry, and construction industry. However, Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has the functionality to handle businesses in several other types of industries. Besides Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP solution, the software giant offers a plethora of other solutions for businesses in all industries and all sizes. Oracle is one of the two leading Enterprise Resource Planning vendors in the world with offices located in several countries. Oracle is only second to SAP, who is another Enterprise Resource Planning giant. If the JD Edwards ERP system doesn’t suit your business’s needs, there are several other comparable ERP solutions on the market today. Microsoft was a late comer to the Enterprise Resource Planning industry, however, they have launched some rather competitive ERP solutions over the last five years. You don’t have to select one of the top Enterprise Resource Planning systems to get a solution that is well suited to your business needs. There are several smaller vendors on the market with impressive ERP offerings. Doing some research on vendors will help you select an Enterprise Resource Planning solution. It’s also a good idea to take advantage of demos. Most ERP vendors offer free demos on their website. Most importantly, don’t rush into just any ERP solution as they can be costly. |
