Pharmaceutical Companies Will Gain the Competitive Advantage with an ERP Solution

If pharmaceutical a company invests in the right ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning solution, they can gain the competitive advantage, save money, and stay in compliance with government regulations.  The pharmaceutical industry is a much regulated industry and ERP solutions help to keep pharmaceutical companies in regulation with built-in controls.  The pharmaceutical industry is also a very innovative industry.  Pharmaceutical companies can be innovative by implementing a pharmaceutical ERP solution to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

The pharmaceutical industry has grown an immeasurable amount over the past decade due to demand for new and existing drugs.  Pharmaceutical manufacturers need an efficient solution in order to get the drugs out to vendors in a timely manner.  All pharmaceutical manufacturers must comply or meet regulatory demands such as cGLP, Q7A, and cGMP.  The needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers can be fulfilled with the proper pharmaceutical ERP solution.  More specifically, a pharmaceutical ERP solution can reduce procurement cycles, manage formulas and recipes, control lots, provide quality control, provide expiry date tracking, manage supplier payments, and make sure the right quantities of raw materials are on hand.

Many Enterprise Resource Planning vendors have created products to specifically address the needs of pharmaceutical companies.  Some pharmaceutical ERP vendors are; Enterprise 21, ORION Advantage, ICICI InfoTech, Deacom, and eresource.  Pharmaceutical manufacturers are process manufacturers, which means that they use a formula or recipe to create a product.  Process manufacturers differ from discrete manufacturers who assemble products.  Each of the pharmaceutical ERP vendors mentioned above offer process manufacturing functionality, which may be necessary for your company to be successful in the pharmaceutical industry.

There are a few different types of pharmaceutical Enterprise Resource Planning solutions available today.  Companies many select an on-site proprietary ERP solution, a SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP solution, or even an open source ERP solution.  Some pharmaceutical companies have been very successful with Compiere, an open source Enterprise Resource Planning solution.  OpenBravo is an open source SaaS solution for pharmaceutical companies.  Epicor provides a SaaS pharmaceutical ERP solution.  There are several pharmaceutical Enterprise Resource Planning solutions on the market from which to choose from.  The hard part is to select the right solution that suits your business, meets your expectations, and offers a return on investment.
