Manufacturing Software Companies and ERP
Manufacturing is a competitive industry. And for manufactures to stay on top of their game, they need a software package that will give them a competitive edge. Such a software package should be able to increase operational excellence, adjust, or shorten work cycles, manage shop floor production and connect to all other areas of the business. The best software for such tasks is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). This is one-system software that can make all the difference in processing business tasks and accomplishing objectives. It’s the reason manufacturing software companies and ERP work so well together.
It’s interesting to note that ERP started out as MRP, Manufacturing Resource Planning and eventually evolved into Enterprise Resource Planning. So manufacturers are aware of what this software can do. And it can do a lot. It’s powered by applications modules that are applied for processing any manufacturing task. It gets more done with less because it is integrated and automated for greater effect. This software streamlines the manufacturing process and links to all other departments, such as supply chain management and accounting.
Some enterprise software vendors work exclusively in the area of manufacturing and supply chain management. These companies offer a variety of solutions for manufacturers that today can be accessed through a Web-based, hosted, program. This is very convenient for small specialized manufacturers who don’t have the wherewithal of their larger competitors. This is just another way in which manufacturing software companies and ERP work together to make things happen on a number of levels and for any size company.
Take SYSPRO for example, this software vendor is very active in the manufacturing arena its software brings together all of the supporting resources needed for product development. It also offers a Web-based package. This vendor has solutions for both discrete as well as batch processing manufacturing. Its platform provides support from production scheduling to shop floor control management. And it oversees such tasks as assemble-to-order, configure-to-order, engineer-to-order, made-to-order, mixed mode operations and more.
Another software vendor, Exact MAX, has manufacturing solutions for small to medium-sized companies. It has built-in integration to Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains ERP product and offers user-friendly screens that monitor workflow. It also has a change management component that will allow you to make design changes to the bill of materials, so that the production process is not stymied. This is just a glimpsed of what can be accomplished with manufacturing software companies and ERP.
