Cheers to the Future of the ERP Software Industry in 2011

We are about to ring in a new year.  The ball will soon drop in Times Square and we are all hopeful that 2011 will be more prosperous than 2010.  The year 2010 proved to be difficult for many businesses as we all attempted to recover from the recent economic recession.  As we approach the year 2011, one must wonder what the future will hold for the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software industry.  One thing is sure; nobody has extra cash to spend frivolously.

Without extra cash to spend, businesses are going to be counting their pennies.  This means that potential Enterprise Resource Planning customers will be looking for deals. Not only will they be looking for deals but they will take their time evaluating every possible ERP solution to get the most bang for their buck.  Potential Enterprise Resource Planning customers are going to want to know what kind of return on investment they can expect with an ERP software solution.  These customers are going to want to manage their risk because big risks can put a company under.

Because money is tight and times are hard, SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP software solutions and open-source Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions might just rise to the occasion.  On-site Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions are typically more costly than SaaS Enterprise Resource Planning software and open-source ERP software solutions.  Both types of ERP software solutions (SaaS and open-source) don’t require huge up-front licensing and investment fees.

With few potential Enterprise Resource Planning customers ready to toss money at Enterprise Resource Planning vendors, you can bet that ERP software solution prices will remain competitive.  And, Enterprise Resource Planning vendors will continue to focus on small businesses that seemed to have weathered the harsh conditions of the recession quite well.  As the competitive to win prospective Enterprise Resource Planning customers increases, we will probably see many of the smaller ERP vendors go out of business or get acquired by larger vendors.

As we ring in the New Year, perhaps we shall all make a New Year’s resolution to select the right ERP solution.  Selecting the right solution will yield the greatest returns, which all your executives quite happy.  Cheers to 2011, making good decisions, and the Enterprise Resource Planning industry.
