Enterprise Resource Planning, or ERP, software systems can be defined as integrated computer-based systems that are used to manage a company’s business functions and resources. ERP systems were initially used as tools to enable manufacturing companies to organize their production requirements. Through the years, however, ERP functions expanded to meet the requirements of businesses in many other industries. Today, all types of businesses utilize Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions with the intention of consolidating information and raising efficiencies in their business processes.

The Philippine economy was hit hard during the global economic crisis, but it continues to demonstrate resiliency amid this crisis and it is poised to remain strong as the government implements a stimulus package. Prior to the crisis, a large number of businesses in the Philippines had implemented ERP software systems, but not all of these businesses were satisfied with the results.

One of the main reasons this occurred is that the affordable ERP Philippine software solutions were inadequate in functionality and the rest were too expensive to be cost-effective.  Moreover, the ERP software was not properly prepared to handle the functional requirements of the Philippine enterprises.  This meant added costs due to lengthy customization processes.  As a result, millions of dollars were spent and there was no way to go live. These failures left a lot of companies in the Philippines understandably mistrustful of ERP software projects.

Last year saw the advent of Epicor, a dependable, Microsoft based ERP software system in the country. October of 2010 also saw NetSuite’s introduction of NetSuite OneWorld PH ERP software in the Philippines. This software system is a cloud-based, global business management ERP software system that was designed expressly for the businesses that are situated in the country.
