ERP Software

ERP Hong Kong

Today it is a given than in order for a company to stay competitive, it must use ERP Software to run the business. Still there are many options of ERP Software available.  ERP Software can be purchased from a vendor, it can be developed by an in-house IT department, it can be downloaded as Open Source ERP, or it can be SaaS ERP.

SaaS ERP is ERP software that is hosted by a third party. This does away with the need for a company to install software on its servers, which is the way traditional ERP is handled. With SaaS, customers access their data via a Web connection. This type of ERP Software has three selling points: the initial investment is much less because a business does not purchase a system but instead pays a subscription bill; because there is no software to install on-premise, the implementation time is much shorter than with traditional ERP systems; and when maintenance and changes are required, the vendor is able to make these to the software without disrupting the customer.

ERP in Hong Kong is currently growing at a swift pace.  This is particularly true of SaaS ERP Software for the smaller and medium-sized businesses. A survey taken by International Data Corporation in 2009 showed that this sized enterprises in Hong Kong are much more receptive to SaaS than they are in other countries in Asia. In Hong Kong, almost thirty percent of the respondents said they were already using SaaS ERP or were considering the use of SaaS ERP.  This response to ERP Hong Kong is in direct contrast to only eight percent of respondents from other Asian countries who answered the same.

The predictions for the ERP Hong Kong market’s growth are due to the fact that local industry experts believe that SaaS adoption in Hong Kong is still in its early stages.  They say local deployment of SaaS ERP has been mainly used for isolated applications such as email, Web conferencing, and collaboration software. In other words, it has not yet reached the level of use it will reach once businesses incorporate it into integrated enterprise solutions.

Preventing this last step from happening are the concerns over data reliability and security which many companies still have with this type of ERP.  Given this unease, vendors seeking to find a niche in the ERP Hong Kong market would do well to address these points with potential customers.
