ERP Software Comparison
I think by now we have learned that there are a number of Enterprise Resource Planning software vendors operating in the marketplace; but how do you make a good ERP software comparison? No two enterprise packages are alike. They all include a number of features, but they vary; and of course the technologies and the architecture applied is not all the same. The applications platforms will often be designed in a different manner too. Applications are tools, and not all software vendors build their platforms in the same way. Depending on the type of business you operate, you will find that some vendors are stronger in some areas and weaker in others. That’s why it is so important to do your homework; and that includes a comprehensive review of all the vendors that best fit your specialty.
If your company is involved with customer relationship management, you’ll want to look at the strengths and weaknesses of the applications modules provided by vendors. And keep in mind too, that some vendors specialize in certain business applications, while others provide solutions for the entire enterprise. You may also run across some vendors who will not or don’t care to bundle a number of applications onto one module. For example, the customer related module may need to include job orders, promos, sales quotes, connections to marketing and sales and so forth. You’ll want a vendor that can satisfy that need.
Fortunately, for many small and midsized companies, today’s marketplace offers many options from which to choose. It’s shouldn’t be too difficult to find a package that provides the solution you’re seeking. But you will first need to do a thorough review to find the best ERP software comparison. This is a serious investment and you must approach it as such. You’ll want to inquire about the architecture and the functionality of the software package. Remember, you can’t just rely on what the salesperson is telling you nor all of the literature he provides. If you are unsure, talk to others who have applied such systems, or speak with a consultant; but don’t let them sway you to a vendor they support or often work with. It has to be the right package for your company, not the consultants.
Keep in mind too, that you’re not likely to find a perfect package, because there aren’t any. You should be thinking more about flexibility, and how the software can scale up as your company grows.
Making the right ERP software comparison can sometimes be tricky. But if you put the right management team together and do your homework, you should come out all right.
