ERP Features

If you’re considering installing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to run the business operations of your company, you will be thinking about ERP features and what you want on your applications platform. You’ll have applications modules for a number of business processing tasks. Many of these modules can be bundled with a number of applications relating to a particular task, such as manufacturing, finance and accounting, and customer relationship management. That’s convenient, and important to note because you may be talking to some vendors who don’t offer bundled modules; maybe they are placed separately. That’s why it’s so important to do your homework, and study the different ERP software packages.

What’s in an ERP package? Well, that depends, what do you want? That’s an important consideration, because every business is different and you need to find a solution that best fits your own personal needs. Some of the features you choose will be relevant to your own unique situation. That is very beneficial to you, because it allows for flexibility and the ability to choose from a large pool of ERP software vendors. There will be a number of options to choose from, but you will have to know what you are looking for.

So, what are you seeking? What features do you desire? That depends of course on the type of business you conduct and what business processing applications you need. Let’s take a look at some of the features that can be accessed from an enterprise resource planning platform. Remember to think about what is of interest to your company, the solutions to operational activity that you need, to efficiently and effectively conduct business. The applications that will combine to administer, support, and promote the company. The following are some common ERP features that many small and midsized companies utilize in their business.
•    Customer Relationship Management: This module could include sales quotes and orders, customer contacts and promotions, and more.
•    Financials: This module would include all of the finance and accounts payable and receivable tasks, and any other financial components, including analytics and reports.
•    Supply Chain Management: Keeps you abreast of how you’re servicing yourself across the enterprise; keeping track of all workflow, inventory purchasing and procurement, etc.
•    Distribution: Once you’ve gotten the product produced, you will need to get it distributed. This module will deal with logistics like fulfillment and delivery.

These are just a few of the many ERP features your company may want to consider.
