Almost from its inception, the city of Flagstaff, Arizona has been a manufacturing town. Sometime in the 1860’s Congress sent Lieutenant Edward Beale to build a road across the territory of what is now known as northern Arizona. Lt. Beale sent glowing reports back to the government informing them that the Flagstaff area was rich in grasslands, water and timber. Not quite twenty years later, the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad arrived in Flagstaff effectively ending the town’s isolation.
