ERP Software

Accounting ERP Software

Accounting ERP software usually refers to an accounting software program or suite of programs that can be run from a central ERP platform. Some forms of integrated accounting ERP software can be purchased from vendors who specialize in software business management tools, like accounting, payroll, or human resource applications. Accounting ERP software can also be obtained for little or no cost over the internet as freeware or open source solutions.

Some accounting ERP software providers, like Microsoft or Sage Peachtree, provide products or product suites that are scaled to meet a range of budgets and business needs. Accounting ERP software packages tend to be scaled along similar lines. At the most economical level, providers offer automatic calculations for double entry ledgers, which can help small business owners reduce accounting errors. Products at this level also usually provide templates for invoices and simple budgeting and planning tools. They may also offer the user the ability to reconcile balance statements across multiple bank accounts.

At the next level of complexity and expense, accounting ERP software should allow the user to create cost and opportunity comparison charts in order to accurately plan purchases and investments. Using these mid-level features, a small business owner can compare financing, loan and credit card options as well as mortgage offers and other opportunities.

At the most complex and expensive levels, accounting ERP software product suites should be able to help business owners navigate international transactions by providing language and currency translation features. Local, regional and international tax laws provide a challenge to some small and mid-sized business owners as well, and some accounting ERP software solutions can help unravel these issues. Compliance with various regulatory rules may also may be an issue, especially for small businesses engaged in manufacturing, and since regulations change periodically, well-chosen accounting ERP software can help business managers avoid problems.

Purchasing and implementing a complete integrated ERP infrastructure may not be the only way to take advantage of the benefits of accounting ERP software product suites. Some smaller businesses may find ERP systems out of reach in terms of purchase and maintenance costs, and may want to consider alternatives like hosting solutions, or application service solutions that allow the user to run accounting applications from a shared server architecture while sidestepping the cost of ownership. Meanwhile, software packages provided by Peachtree, Tally Accounting and Intuit Quickbooks are available at manageable cost, and new products are developed every year that offer industry specific components for businesses like construction, apparel and pharmaceuticals.

Accounting software is moving steadily within reach for even the smallest business and start-ups. It should not be difficult to find an accounting product that offers what you need at a price you can afford.
