ERP Solution

Be Picky When It Comes to Selecting Your ERP Solution

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) selection process can be a difficult and daunting task to fulfill.  If you select the wrong ERP solution, there’s all kinds of consequences like; loss of money due to processes that don’t fit your business model, no return on investment, unhappy customers, unhappy employees, and unhappy bosses.  Of course, there’s also the fact that you look like a total schmuck for your poor ERP selection.  Finding the right Enterprise Resource Planning solution is like the story about Goldilocks.  Goldilocks gets lost in the woods and can’t find her way home.  You’re probably familiar with the details of the story, but do you remember the part about Goldilocks and the soup and how picky she was?  Let me remind you.

Goldilocks finds a house where three bears live.  She enters the house and eats their soup because she is hungry and lost and the bears are gone.  The first bowl of soup is too hot, the second bowl of soup is too cold and the third bowl of soup is just right.  You will experience a similar scenario when fulfilling your ERP selection task.  You will find some Enterprise Resource Planning solutions that are too costly, have functionality you don’t need, have processes that don’t work with your business model, and so on.  These Enterprise Resource Planning solutions compare to the soup that was too hot for Goldilocks.  You will also find some ERP solutions that are too simple for your processes, not robust enough to handle all your users, and technically don’t integrate well with your existing system.

These Enterprise Resource Planning solutions compare to the soup that was too cold for Goldilocks.  Now, you must be selective, like Goldilocks, to get what you want.  Don’t buy the hot soup because it’s the first one you try.  Don’t buy the cold soup because it’s convenient.  Select the right soup.  To select the right soup you must dedicate time and resources to the ERP selection process.  Seek help from other managers, employees, and the like.  Getting feedback will only help you make the right decision.  The outcome may provide your company with the competitive edge to put you on top and make you successful.  You definitely don’t want the outcome may make you look like a total schmuck who doesn’t know what he or she is doing.
