ERP Solutions

ERP Solutions Come in all Shapes and Sizes

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions come in all shapes and sizes.  There are those ERP solutions built for small businesses, those built for medium sized businesses, and those built for large businesses.  There are ERP solutions built for specific industries like the automotive industry, the telecommunications industry, the food industry, the textile industry, the banking industry, and so on.  Then, there are ERP solutions that focus on a core module.  For example, Glovia International sells an On Demand ERP system that is best suited for the manufacturing and business industry.  Glovia’s ERP is best suited for manufacturing because it focuses on three modules, which are the financial module, manufacturing module and inventory module.  Notice there is no human resources functionality.  Organizations that manage or supply human resources will not like this ERP solution.  Similarly, manufacturing based organizations will not want to purchase the Ceecom ERP system because it is designed for the apparel and footwear industry.

There are some Enterprise Resource Planning vendors that offer ERP solutions with so much functionality that it can be used for any industry and any organizations.  For example, SAP is a well known and very large enterprise software company that offers ERP solutions for small businesses, medium sized businesses, large business, and all industries.  Another similar company that provides ERP solutions for just about any and everyone is Oracle.

So, how do you go through the hundreds if not thousands of Enterprise Resource Planning solutions on the market to find the one that best suits your business needs? Well, you can read ERP solution reviews, ask current ERP solution users, and demo ERP solutions on the ERP vendor’s website.  In some cases you can even ask for free trials.  However, before you do any of these tasks, consider the size of your business, the processes that need automating, integration issues, if you want an on-site ERP solution, if you want a hosted ERP solution, or if you want an open source ERP solution.  Define your business processes, develop a budget and think about the future of your business and how you plan to grow.

Selecting the right ERP solution will be the most important thing you do.  The right ERP solution can make or break your business so choose wisely.  And, don’t buy something because you think it’s a good deal.  Take all the time you need to properly evaluate.
