ERP Solutions

Enterprise Resource Planning in the Next Decade

Get out your crystal ball, your genie in the bottle, or your lucky troll doll because who knows what’s going to happen to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) market over the next decade.  Well, besides the obvious going ons like cloud ERP solutions, SaaS (Software as a Service) Enterprise Resource Planning solutions, on-demand ERP solutions, and open-source ERP solutions, who in the heck knows.  And, trying to predict the future of technology is absolutely impossible and downright reckless of any human being.  Unless of course, you have a crystal ball, a genie, or a troll doll.

Even though we can’t make absolute predictions about the future of ERP solutions, we can make educated guesses and intelligent assumptions.  For example, we know that the technology market demands speed.  Enterprise Resource Implementation time will most likely improve, functionality will increase, and overall efficiency of the entire ERP process will most likely take place.  It will be a race to see which Enterprise Resource Planning vendor can gain the competitive edge the quickest.

As on-site ERP solutions become out-dated and ERP vendors stop developing these applications, we’ll see a growth in open-source Enterprise Resource Planning solutions, on-demand ERP solutions, and cloud Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.  Everyone wants to lighten their load and they can do so with these types of Enterprise Resource Planning solutions. We’ve already seen ERP giants like SAP and Oracle reinvent themselves by re-creating their solutions to meet the needs of small and medium sized businesses.  These ERP vendors also entered the SaaS market to stay competitive and earn their piece of the SaaS pie.  The key is to allow for change and each Enterprise Resource Planning vendor must not only allow for it, but they must adjust to it.  Resisting change is the sure way to an early grave.

Another ERP solution to keep on the radar over the next decade is the Global ERP.  Of course one can only speculate how well this solution will take off.  For now, it seems to be growing in popularity.  Also on the horizon is the idea of moving ERP functionality to iPhone applications.  Pretty soon our little phones will be able to make us breakfast and drive us to work too.  All I can say is “keep your eyes peeled and your ears open” because the future of the Enterprise Resource Planning solution is going to be interesting.
