The Future of ERP

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions are vital to many organizations.  In fact, many businesses can’t survive with their ERP solutions.  Enterprise Resource Planning solutions are proven to save companies money, make them more efficient, and strategically align them.  If ERP solutions did not do these things for companies then they would not sell and the Enterprise Resource Planning vendors would go out of business.  Lately, we’ve witnessed Enterprise Resource Planning solutions in two and three tier form, as SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions, and even as open source solutions.  With all these new types of ways to deliver an Enterprise Resource Planning solution, where does the future hold?

As we all know, the ERP market has evolved greatly from the 1980s to present day.  Gone are the Enterprise Resource Planning solutions only built for large fortune 500 companies.  Today all companies of all sizes and industries can find an ERP solution suited for their business.  Many ERP vendors have focused heavily on the small business market (SME), which is strategically genius.  Small businesses typically flourish much better than medium and large sized businesses during recessions.  We’ve seen a whole new crop of small businesses evolve over the past ten years.  Now that the recession is technically over, we will probably see more and more small businesses implementing ERP solutions.  This means that there’s tons of money to be made in the small business ERP market.

Global Enterprise Resource Planning solutions are growing in numbers and strength.  It is probable that this market will boom in the next ten years.  Many organizations are building or strengthening their global ERP solutions in order to be strong competitors.  Specifically, some vendors in the global ERP market are; SAP, Oracle. QAD, Ramco, CDC Software, COA Solutions, Consona Corporation, Unit 4 Agresso NV, Plex Systems, Epicor, and ABAS Software.

The future of Enterprise Resource Planning solutions is strong.  With the evolution of the internet, SaaS and open source ERP products will flourish.  Global ERP products will unify countries and companies.  As new technology evolves, you can bet that the Enterprise Resource Planning vendors will yet again adapt just as they adapted their ERP solutions for specific industries and business sizes.  Adapting and repositioning oneself is the only way to stay in the game.  It’s the only way to be current and survive the future and whatever the future may hold.
