Is Choosing a SaaS ERP a Wise Choice?

Software as a Service, known as SaaS, is has many benefits and may be just the right type of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution for your business.  In the past, most SaaS ERP solution providers targeted small to medium sized customers.  However, times are ah changin and SaaS ERP solutions are targeting larger customers. 

Choosing a SaaS ERP is a wise choice.  It’s like going to a restaurant and eating out versus staying home and making dinner, which is never fun.  The restaurant is like the SaaS ERP vendor because they take care of everything.  They cook your food, they service it to you, and the waiters pull out your chair as you sit down, and so on.  Sure, you need to provide some input, like what you want to order from the menu, but everything is pretty much taken care of.  With an on-site Enterprise Resource Planning solution, you have to cook your own food and serve yourself.  It’s definitely like staying home and making dinner, which is never fun.

Besides being waited on, you might ask why SaaS ERP is a good choice.  Well, there are no licensing fees, you don’t have to perform the upgrades, the implementation can be rather quick, bugs are handled by the SaaS ERP vendor, and you get to play Call of Duty while all of this is going on.  Not so bad, huh?  Another nice thing about SaaS ERPs is that you pay as you play, so to speak.  You pay for the use of the solution as you go. 

One growing SaaS ERP vendor that has great customer reviews is called Workday.  Dave Duffield is the founder of Workday for those of you who remember him from PeopleSoft.  Dave always puts one hundred percent into his companies and his company’s products.  If you’re looking for a SaaS ERP solution with Human Capital Management, Payroll, Financial Management, Spend Management, Higher Education and Services functionality, then Workday may be for you.

Whichever SaaS ERP solution you decide to go with, make sure it is one that works with your business model.  Paying for a SaaS ERP solution is the easy part.  Finding the right SaaS ERP solution can be a pain in the you know what.  Take the time and do your homework.  Visit vendor websites and get informed.  Read vendor reviews and get input from your employees.
