Are Software as a Service Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions Ready for the Big Time?

There’s so much banter in the marketplace today in regards to on-site Enterprise Resource Planning solutions, Software as a Service Enterprise Resource Planning solutions, and open source Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.  Mr. John Doe professional thinks that SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions are ready to take on any type of business of any size.  Then, there’s Mrs. Jane Doe professional who thinks that SaaS ERP solutions aren’t ready to take on large businesses and aren’t as cost effective as believed to be.  It seems that for every positive SaaS ERP review, there’s a negative SaaS ERP review.  So, what’s going on?  Are SaaS ERP solutions selling?  What’s the future of SaaS ERP?  And, will SaaS ERP solutions be sufficient for large organizations?

The fact of the matter is that SaaS ERP solutions are growing in popularity.  However, specific suites of SaaS solutions are much more popular that entire SaaS Enterprise Resource Planning solution.  For example, more businesses are purchasing the financials SaaS suite versus the entire SaaS ERP.  SaaS ERP solutions are still considered to be immature products.  Software as a Service ERP solutions have a lot of growing to do in order to take on big organizations.  And, the cost of the SaaS ERP solutions must be less than the cost of on-site Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.

Historically large organizations typically want total ownership of their systems.  Many large organizations already have on-site Enterprise Resource Planning systems.  However, as these systems age and technology always progresses rapidly, we might start to see a growing number of all sized organizations opting for SaaS ERP solutions.  It doesn’t look like this move is going to happen soon, but perhaps in the next ten years or so.

Approximately sixteen percent of the total Enterprise Resource Planning market belongs to SaaS ERP solutions.  Perhaps many organizations don’t feel that SaaS ERP solutions are ready for the big time.  Or, perhaps they keep reading controversial banter that confuses them completely.  Whatever the case, if you’re looking for an ERP solution check out Software as a Service solutions.  There are numerous SaaS ERP vendors on the market and they offer demos on their websites.  Explore all your options and don’t let a few opinions change your mind.  Companies like Salesforce and Workday offer some great SaaS ERP functionality.
