ERP SoftwarePiping SaaS ERPsWith the rise of the SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions, one might ask whether there’s enough bandwidth to support these solutions. Currently, Netflix uses the most amount of bandwidth in North America. In fact, twenty percent of all internet use (excluding mobile) is by Netflix. Why does Netflix use so much bandwidth? Well because streaming videos takes up an enormous amount of downstream use. So, with Netflix tying up the Internet, what will happen to SaaS ERP solution performance? Not too much if the pipes are properly supported. Companies like Cisco Systems and Juniper will profit big time because they can provide the routers that provide more bandwidth. As ISPs (Internet Service Providers) upgrade their networks, you can bet your bottom dollar that Cisco and Juniper are going to be licking their chops like they’re about to feast on a Thanksgiving turkey. Truly, it doesn’t matter who profits as long as the bandwidth is there. And, it will be there for SaaS ERPs. Newer technologies always need to be tested and proven. Right now, smaller and mid-sized businesses are eating up SaaS ERP solutions. They want it all. However, the large fortune 500 companies aren’t going to join in on the fun right away. They’re going to let everyone else get their feet wet, observe the pitfalls and successes, and then they’ll make their move. Larger companies have more to lose if technology fails them. For example, a small manufacturer of hockey sticks probably won’t be very impacted if their SaaS ERP solution fails for the day. However, if Walmart (for example) has a clinch in their Enterprise Resource Planning solution for a day, they lose big time and will be very unhappy. Explore all opportunities before you purchase an Enterprise Resource Planning solution. Remember, there are up-sides and down-sides to every Enterprise Resource Planning solution. Your job is to find the solution that best fits your business model. Keep in mind that if your business is planning to grow, you need to get out your crystal ball and attempt to determine where your business will (which areas specifically) experience this growth. Then, you can keep this in mind when looking at ERPs. Worrying about Internet bandwidth shouldn’t be something that deters you from a SaaS Enterprise Resource Planning solution. Talk to current SaaS ERP customers and see what they have to say. |
