ERP ModulesERP Modules in 1500s Wouldn’t it have been stupendous to have an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in the 1500s? Of course, computers would have had to be invented as well. Oh and we can’t leave out all the technology that goes along with the computers and ERP system. We are so lucky to have such an efficient, cost saving automated solution, like an ERP system, in today’s market. If there was such a thing as an ERP system in the 1500s it would be something like this…. The place is England and we already know the date (early 1500s). King Henry the viii purchases an ERP system to help him rule all of England. First of all, Henry the viii is having a heck of a time trying to keep track of his jewels, his gold, his estates and manors, his horses and his servants. So Henry uses his ERP system and fires up the Finance module. He has his servants account for every single last piece of gold, land, and other royal possession. The servants are happy because the process is now automated and streamlined. When Henry buys another manor, the servants don’t have to go back and count all the manors, they simply enter the new information into the computer. Then, Henry can view spreadsheets and reports with detailed information. Now that Henry has his riches under control, he decides to look for a queen to marry. Henry has one of his servants fire up his ERP system and goes to the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) ERP module. Henry has many contacts and acquaintances and figures it’s best to use them to help him find a wife. All of a sudden Henry’s brother dies, so Henry marries his brother’s wife, Catherine. Unfortunately for Catherine, Henry finds another lady he is fond of through his robust CRM ERP module. So Henry divorces Catherine and marries Ann. Ann had poor human resource skills and treated all those around her rather poorly. Henry sent Ann to ERP classes to teach her how to use the Human Resources module, but she didn’t want to learn. She became so unruly that Henry had her head chopped off. This is about the time that Henry realized he was lacking a Supply Chain Management ERP module and a Manufacturing ERP module. You see, Ann asked for a special sharp sword to do the deed. She didn’t want just anybody with an axe chopping her noggin off. Henry had to order the special sword and swordsman to yield the sword from France. |
