The Search for Cheap Accounting Software

Is there really such a thing as cheap accounting software? Well, well, said the rocking chair. There’s always a better deal to be found if you take the time out to look for it. But, cheap, of course, is relative. Most advisers would probably suggest that if you want cheap, go the open source route - get the code - and save the money. Perhaps that is the reason for the growing popularity of open source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications.

If you’re working with a limited budget, open source software would appear to be your best bet. It offers flexibility, convenience, no license fees and can be implemented without much hassle. Having a good technical assistant or consultant on hand can help simplify the process. With open source software code you can also scale up as you need to, applying more applications modules when you’re ready.

Cheap accounting software works easier as software as a service (SaaS). This approach would give you a Web-based system with no hardware headaches to deal with. And, again, the code would be free and easier to apply. It’s an alternative that’s free and still one that offers the opportunity to achieve enterprise management success through open source codes that can be tweaked.

So, don’t despair, you can find accounting software that will meet your needs without breaking your wallet. In fact, if you did an exhaustive search I’m sure you would find that there is much product available for review. But even if it’s free or low cost, you’ll still want to take the time to thoroughly check out the marketplace for the best available options.

If you’re going to utilize cheap accounting software make sure that you have good technical assistance for managing the system, keeping it up and running accurately. The open source option calls for assistance too, when needed just as proprietary systems would. You can though certainly experience faster deployment, broader interoperability with various application features, and greater control over your own destiny.

There are also low cost proprietary Web-based systems that might work well for you. There are many vendors offering a lower cost option for small businesses but you’ll need to do your homework - find out who they are - and determine whether or not they provide the package you’re seeking. You can place them side by side with open source offerings and make a determination of which works best for you.
