ERP Software

ERP Software, Long Beach

Earlier this year, Port of Long Beach in Long Beach, California announced that it would implement an integrated ERP system, specifically Microsoft Dynamics ERP, to serve as the core of its business operations. With the implementation of this new ERP software, Long Beach and Port of Long Beach stand to reap significant benefits. After the installation of the ERP software, Long Beach port will able to run a new port operating and revenue tracking system. This new platform (called PORTS) will improve the methods by which Port of Long Beach handles invoices, manages the billing process, tracks accounts receivable and manages cash applications. But accounting functions are only the beginning of the advantages of the new ERP software. Long Beach port administration will also be better equipped to handle both internal and external customer service issues, and will have access to a vastly improved document and records management system.  Once installed, the new system is expected to increase efficiency and automation and will ideally lay the groundwork for future enhancements.

The complete implementation of the new ERP software, Long Beach officials estimate, could revolutionize a Long Beach economic powerhouse responsible for over 316,000 jobs in Southern California. The success of the implementation could also bode well for the future of ERP software, Long Beach ERP consulting firms, and a host of other software developers and dealers located in this portion of America’s technology corridor. When it comes to ERP software, Long Beach provides a home not only to large businesses like Port of Long Beach who stand to reap the benefits of integrated systems, but also several software developers, independent implementation firms and ERP consulting services.

If the future looks bright for ERP software, Long Beach residents stand to gain. Small and mid-sized businesses appear to be responding to efforts on the part of large providers to customize their product suites and accommodate smaller budgets. As large providers and vendors compete for small business market share, new industry specific ERP vendors appear on the landscape every year. And outsourcing options and hosting services are also increasing small business access to integrated ERP software. Long Beach software businesses and strategic partners are poised to take part in a growing economic niche as ERP systems for small business become commonplace. The hope for this positive trend may lie in successful outcomes for businesses that install ERP systems and experience rapid and significant returns on their initial investment. If businesses at both the large and small end of the spectrum experience success with their integrated software-based business solutions, others may be inclined to follow suit. For now, all eyes are on Port of Long Beach, watching developments as they unfold and anticipating positive returns.
