ERP Manufacturing

Manufacturing ERP Software, Bellevue

Long known as a suburb of Seattle, Bellevue Washington lies across Lake Washington in the Eastside region of King County. This is the second largest urban area in Washington State, but its population is growing rapidly, even during the current economic downturn, and many annual surveys consistently rank Bellevue as one of the best places to live in America. One of the central points of Bellevue’s appeal is its strength as a business community, and this strength is largely due to the flourishing growth of small businesses and start-ups in the region.

Why do small businesses thrive in Bellevue? There are several factors, but at least some of them can trace their success to the history of manufacturing ERP software. Bellevue small manufacturing firms at the beginning of the early 1990s were beset by the same problems that afflicted manufacturing firms everywhere. These firms needed to schedule the delivery of raw materials to the shop floor, assemble them and then warehouse and distribute the finished products, all while relying on several departments including sales, marketing and product development which didn’t always communicate perfectly. These departments were often run on separate software platforms which did not intersect, so data sharing and coordination between many entities caused hang ups and slowed business when things went wrong. Until the advent of manufacturing ERP software, Bellevue business were dependent on these isolated legacy systems. What they needed were new integrated platforms that unified back office business functions and allowed multiple employees to share access to databases and make updates in real time. With the implementation of manufacturing ERP software, Bellevue businesses could begin to move forward, install modern software programs, streamline their functions, and move forward into a new millennium. Before long, the appeal of ERP spread beyond the world of manufacturing and found a foothold in other industry sectors as well. ERP infrastructures had a wide variety of applications, and they improved functionality in HR, payroll, accounting and many other general business management tools.

As the millennium change approached, businesses all over the country rushed to install ERP platforms and upgrade their systems. Now that most large enterprises that want ERP platforms have implemented them, ERP vendors, providers and consultants in Bellevue and elsewhere are turning their attention downstream to smaller business clients with more restrictive budgets. The future remains to be seen in terms of how these vendors and providers will customize their products and solutions to meet the needs of smaller clients. And it also remains to be seen how small businesses calculate the potential returns on their investments in ERP software platforms. But it seems likely that the two will meet at a point of promising mutual benefit.
