ERP CRM systems
The term ERP CRM systems, or customer relationship management software systems, describes a form of software module designed to run from the backbone of a unified, integrated ERP platform. ERP business solutions have been implemented by large and midsized businesses for almost two decades, and they work by unifying business functions previously run on outmoded and isolated legacy software systems. Some of these previously independent business functions include accounting, HR business tools, payroll, and other functions that have both general and industry specific applications. One of the business management tools that previously ran on its own software platform was customer relationship management, a broad term that encompasses all customer relationship management tasks like customer order placement and customer service.
With many integrated ERP solutions, ERP CRM modules have been installed to handle these customer service and customer feedback functions. ERP CRM systems have been designed and developed by a wide range of vendors and providers, and each software suite involves its own set of programs, but the basic functions provided by most of these systems include customer ordering portals—often through web-based interfaces—and tools that allow a company to assist customers with questions and gather customer data. This data may provide information about demographics, and it may also provide commentary on products. With an integrated ERP CRM system, the data can be gathered, aggregated and stored in databases housed on a shared server. The databases can be accessed by marketing departments who can use both customer demographics and customer feedback to target campaigns and promotions. The ERP CRM data can also be accessed by sales teams who can use it to qualify leads and make more efficient use of travel, touches, and contacts. And ERP CRM data can also be shared by product development teams to help them strategize and create innovative new products. ERP CRM solutions can also help business owners manage vendor and partner relationships, and can allow employees to store data relevant to business to business and supply chain contacts as well.
If you’re a small or mid-sized business owner or CIO and you’re considering implementing an integrated ERP system with an ERP CRM functionality, consider the ERP CRM solutions offered by the major providers, but make sure you investigate smaller providers as well. And don’t make a full commitment until you’ve explored ERP CRM systems available as open source or freeware programs that can be downloaded at low or no cost over the internet. The right ERP CRM module can transform the efficiency of your customer contacts. CRM systems can be comprehensive, but they can also be expensive, so conduct a full evaluation of your existing needs and functionalities before you invest.
