ERP Human Capital Management Best Practices
If you’re thinking about implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Human Capital Management (HCM) software package, consider some best practices before you do so. The first best practice is to know your company well. You’re your needs, know your would like to haves, and know what you don’t need. When shopping ERP HCM vendors consider your business model and don’t purchase solutions with unnecessary functionality unless your company plans to grow and eventually use that functionality. Determine which business problems will be solved and which objectives will be met with an ERP HCM solution.
Ask yourself who this new ERP HCM system will affect. Communicate with those people and let them know how the new EPM HCM system will affect their job. Get their input. Make sure all management and other executives are aware of your plans. Communicating with your employees and executive board and getting their buy-in is a best practice and prepares them for what’s to come.
The next best practice is to choose a solution that is easy to use. Do your homework and research ERP CRM vendors. Most ERP CRM vendors have demos on their websites. Many vendors also have all functionality documented. Take advantage of these opportunities. Get to know some vendors to see if you will work well with them. Make sure you understand the functionality you need and the functionality the EPM HCM system you purchase includes. Some vendors cater to certain types of businesses such as; large, small and mid-size companies. Consider the reputation of the vendor. Find out how long the vendor has been in the business and talk to their current clients if possible.
Another best practice is to implement your Enterprise Resource Planning Human Capital Management system in increments. Don’t bombard employees with a huge change if possible. Implement a change strategy to prepare employees. Let them know how it’s going to work and what is expected of them. This best practice is especially important if you’re implementing an entire ERP solution.
Set implementation goals. It’s typical for implementations to run longer than expected. Prepare for other unexpected and unrealized issues. Make sure the ERP HCM vendor you choose has good support services should you need help. Good documentation is always beneficial as well. Best practices not only include setting implementation goals, but return on investment (ROI) goals as well. Periodically check to see if ROI goals have been met, exceeded or fall short of expectations.
