Is Enterprise Resource Planning Supply Chain Software All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

The global economy has evolved into one giant fish bowl full of piranhas fighting for market share.   They’ll do their best to rip each other to shreds to gain the upper hand or should I say fin.  With so many options on the market today and everyone marketing their solution as the “very best”, one must wonder if ERP Supply Chain software is all it’s cracked up to be.  Speaking of cracked; in a nutshell Enterprise Resource Planning Supply Chain software is a combination of functionality that allows you to plan, schedule, and essentially perform any and all necessary tasks related to your supply chain.

Today on-site Enterprise Resource Planning Supply Chain software has to compete with on-demand ERP Supply Chain software and ERP Supply Chain Software as a Service (SaaS).   In fact, ERP Supply Chain solutions are even being offered in open source form for free.  The global economy is evolving.  Having all those piranhas fighting actually benefits you because it creates good ole competition, which drives down prices.

The methods of delivery of ERP Supply Chain software don’t really matter.  Choosing SaaS, on-site installation, or open source is your option.  What really matters is the functionality Enterprise Resource Planning Supply Chain software provides and what it can do for you.  It is all it’s cracked up to be?  The answer is YES! If you don’t have ERP Supply Chain software how will you keep track of demand, supply, manufacturing, status, logistics, and distribution?  How will you contain information or data and easily retrieve it when needed?  How will you forecast materials so that you don’t spend tons of money housing them for eons?

Sure, there are lots of things to consider when implementing an ERP Supply Chain software system.  But, the benefits do outweigh the costs.  Now, you don’t have to be one of the cool kids and jump in right away.  Consider your business model.  Consider your options of which there are many.  Then, check out that fish bowl full or piranhas and let them fight for you and your business.  Don’t let those piranhas confuse you though.  Stick to your business model and don’t try to shape and mold your business around their solution.  Spending a lot of money on an Enterprise Resource Planning Supply Chain software solution doesn’t make it a better solution.
