ERP or enterprise resource planning vendors and solutions have been multiplying with a myriad of new products both software and via SaaS, or software as a service, hosted applications. The newer companies on the market have enticing technologies and powerful solutions and a company looking for an ERP solution needs to balance the pros and cons of a newer solution and specifically new companies on the market. Having a history and knowing that a company and hence its products will most likely be around years down the road is a comforting feature when sourcing technical products. Given this factor, it’s a good idea to know who are the “big” ERP veterans on the market today and what they offer. A new but relatively recent player in the ERP market is the software behemoth Microsoft. The focus of Microsoft ERP solutions are towards the smaller to midsized companies and they are continually refining and enhancing their solutions to fit hand in glove with their users. Microsoft is no rookie when it comes to manufacturing, marketing and distribution which has made it a serious competitor in this arena from day one. With tremendous amount of resources focused on this market from orders at the very top of the ranks, Microsoft’s offering is quite compelling to the marketplace. Underscoring this popularity is the inherent compatibility with the Microsoft office products and applications in the market place that spotlights the hand in glove fit with potential customers and their current operations. Oracle has been another giant of the ERP industry and has had a lot of momentum in the market since their acquisition of PeopleSoft enterprise solutions. They are widely known globally for the functionality of their ERP solutions and very highly regarded product features. Taking Peoplesoft ERP solutions separately from Oracle, they are the clear leader in human resource enterprise solutions. The merger with Oracle has only strengthened its already dominant position in the marketplace making it a juggernaut in the HR enterprise software world. Another company almost synonymous with enterprise resource planning is the German ERP giant SAP. SAP remains the ERP choice amongst companies around the world with an almost 30 percent market share, however, it’s market share is being chipped away by its formidable competitors both large and small. Given the resurgence of new ERP products and software on demand solutions over the last years, SAP is working hard to maintain its lead by creating products that are more user friendly and tailored to specific businesses. UPS enterprise software is another giant that can work in tandem with other ERP solutions and applications. This is attractive to customers because it allow scompanies to take the best features and functionalities of solutions and offer a best of breed solution to the market. Knowing the “big” enterprise solutions on the market today will give a good starting point with respect to shopping for the optimum solution with respect to features, functionality, implementation, cost and long term viability. New products, solutions and companies on the market will be balanced with the muscle, distribution and competitive capital of the market leaders in the ERP sector. |
