SAP, the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) giant has announced its appointment of Graeme Riley to replace the long time veteran of SAP and enterprise systems, Ian Black. SAP has been outperforming its competitors in this economic downturn up to Riley’s new title just as the challenging outlook for businesses across the globe has companies scrambling to weather the storm in 2009. Riley is thrilled with the challenging business climate and states that this will be a positive for SAP and feels that this is an opportunity for the software giant to shine with new innovations, service, and support to customers. SAP grew over 20 percent in 2008 and just keeping up that pace in 2009 would be a herculean feat. Riley started his IT career as a computer programmer in the early 70’s in New Zealand for an automobile company and moved up the rank at Computer Consultants, eventually finding his way to SAP in the 90’s. He attributes his early career experience to building his foundation and work philosophy around customer requirements. His experience with enterprise systems ingrained the value that software and technology could bring to an organization. For most of his 40 year career, Riley had been competing directly with SAP which he joined in early 2000. Now he will use his well rounded experience from the development in technology and ERP as well as from companies where he held the top posts to position SAP to thrive in this economic slump and for the years to follow.
