Historically, after the intense demand and fervor to implement ERP software solutions in the late 1990’s to ward off the Y2K scare that was looming at the turn of the century, demand for the large enterprise resource planning, ERP solutions seemed to take a nose dive a few years later. After the fear of a global business systems meltdowns subsided, in tandem with burst of the dot com bubble, demand from companies to make the significant capital investments required for the big ERP solutions on the market declined dramatically. However, the critical benefit s of ERP software and enterprise systems to an organization never left, and with the emergence of software on demand offerings or Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions, and ongoing internet innovations, there is a resurgence of demand for ERP solutions that cost less, specifically with messaging security infrastructure. SaaS solutions, specifically security offerings are gaining in popularity around the globe. Company managers are increasingly willing to have a third party outsource their security infrastructure in large because of the global economic slump and the cost benefits of having a third party with incredibly robust, inexpensive and easy to deploy solutions take care of it. In addition to the low cost advantage of SaaS solutions, the security issue continues to escalate each year in complexity and difficulty in management. New and more stringent security regulations and the emergence of super hackers and spam have increased the momentum of web based threats have pushed managers to outsource this headache to third parties that deal with them for a living on a daily basis. Specifically with messaging security. Also, with the wide array of offering and vendors for on demand software security solutions including new offerings by on premise software giants such as Microsoft , who are now getting into the competition, companies are able to get a solution that fits hand in glove with their organization, industry and employees. Almost half of large and midsized companies surveyed projected that spam and malware will increase despite the increasing innovations in anti-spam and antivirus solutions, and company decision makers are specifically concerned about spyware infecting the network and mobile devices. As far as cost of ownership reduction, in the area of SaaS messaging security, companies saved roughly 70 percent (from $100 to $30) in average cost per user over a 5 year period vesus on premise security solutions. In addition, costs with SaaS solutions are more predictable, have high levels of availability (99.9%), require a much lower bandwidth and storage. Regardless of company size or industry, the need for a robust messaging security defense is universal. On premise enterprise security systems can provide incredibly robust solutions to meet this security challenge. However, a Saas solution can be significantly lower in cost of ownership for messaging security due to the resources and labor requirements of on premise solutions and offer the same security defense and system uptime as on premise solutions. |
