Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is comprised of three words which represents one all-inclusive software system. It’s the ERP system, and it has become very popular over the years. Enterprise software has been around a number of years, but it was utilized mainly by large corporations, because they were the only ones that could afford it. It was very expensive to implement because it required the on-site installation of software, servers, storage and training. ERP SystemExploring the ERP SystemToday, however, this software system is available on-demand, online, as software as a service (SaaS). Bringing the software to the Web was like bringing it to the masses. And businesses, especially small ones, have responded tremendously; so much so that this software system is now the number one buy. What started out as a means of managing the manufacturing process has evolved into a system for administering the whole enterprise. As mentioned above, it is just one system, but it operates as if it were more. That’s because it’s distributed and can do a number of things at once. The software is arranged as application modules that are integrated onto one platform or database, which is automated. The combined integration and speed help to make this a much desired system because it can process business quickly and efficiently. The database is shared, so that all units within a business have access to the same information which is delivered with real time visibility. The seamless nature of the software system means that it unifies functions and makes it easier to get information when you need it. This improves the workflow and keeps all staff up to date on the transmission of information and data. |
