The importance of efficient enterprise software cannot be under estimated in today’s technology driven business world.  Some sort of business software (even if it is not a formal system) is in play at virtually every business.  As businesses continue to diversify, so do business software requirements at every step along the way. Enterprise software companies are now producing erp applications in a wide variety of sizes and shapes to address the business needs of potential customers ranging from the self-employed independent consultant through international multi-industry corporations.

Enterprise Software

Enterprise Software: the key to business success.

Some small businesses still rely upon spreadsheets but smooth, uninterrupted information exchange within an organization or between the customer or client and service provider or manufacturer is the currency upon which business functions.  Transactions happen almost instantaneously via the internet and any business that is not, literally, up to speed, is taking a significant risk.  Customer expectations have grown in direct response to advances in technology.

Enterprise software is the connective tissue that links data to transactions and provides for the real time sharing of data within a company or organization.  This information sharing is a common feature of businesses large or small and enterprise software functionality is no longer the exclusive territory of larger business concerns.  Best business practices and concepts apply to all business settings.  Efficiency saves the day, pleases the customer and grows the success of a company.

ERP (enterprise resource planning) happens in micro for small and one person operations, but happens it does and that fact has been recognized by business software producers far and wide.  Some enterprise software has been developed with the service provider or independent contractor in mind.  Specific time and materials standalone software and interfaces that link customer databases, time and material records and billing functionality together affording the small or independent service provider efficient means by which to track activity and generate invoices.   In the past, these were much more manually driven activities for small business.  That is no longer the case.

Readymade, SaaS and Hosted software now make end-to-end functionality a reality for small business. Big ticket, out of reach systems still exist as traditional enterprise software solutions for mid to large business and beyond.  At any rate, access to such systems requires deep pockets and capital commitment and is not an option for smaller businesses that still need similar functionality but for whom traditional enterprise software is either overkill or over budget.

Scalability has grown in recent years and that growth sets the stage for the future of small business as it reaches for the next rung on the success ladder.  ERP providers have seen the writing on the wall and many solutions have been developed as a stepping stone toward more powerful enterprise software tools. SAP has paid attention and sees this niche as a viable means to increase its earnings and lay the groundwork for future business.  Similarly, Oracle continues to acquire smaller companies…while some would suggest that this might simply be growing market share, but has noticed the possibilities of this market segment.

Either way, business success is inextricably linked to efficient processes and to that end, enterprise software has become a necessity.
