Founded in 1985, Peoplesoft was one of the most predominate early providers of integrated back office management solutions. In fact, the product released by this company in the 1980s called Peoplesoft Version 1 is considered the first fully integrated client server mainframe human resource management system ever to appear on the business technology market. Peoplesoft review data soon after the release of Version 1 led to a strong surge in product and company growth. Peoplesoft software modules soon expanded to include customer relationship management, financial management solutions and supply chain management options that contributed to the transformation of the integrated business solution landscape throughout the late 1990s.

PeopleSoft Review

Peoplesoft software products and systems were independently produced until 2005, when the company was purchased by Oracle. At that point, Oracle continued to provide and support modern versions of these systems using the Peoplesoft name.

If you own or manage technology infrastructures for a small or mid sized business and you’re looking for ways to cut costs and maintain a competitive edge during a challenging economic climate, now my be an excellent time for a Peoplesoft review. As your Peoplesoft review will reveal, the Peoplesoft back office product suite was once buit around an in-house client server architecture. At this point, Peoplesoft software solutions have moved to a fully web-based infrastructure and delivery system. The names of some of these Oracle products are now changing as well to help Oracle maintain brand loyalty after the acquisition of J.D. Edwards. Peoplesoft Enterprise One has now become J.D. Edwards Enterprise One and Peoplesoft World has now become J.D. Edwards World.

In spite of the name change, these back office management product suites still follow the principles integrated online business solution design, and their enterprise resource planning modules for financial management, supply chin management, inventory control and customer relationship management remain as well regarded as ever.

Many of the ongoing changes in the ERP market landscape are reflected in Oracle’s handling of the product suites that were originally designed by Peoplesoft software developers. As you move forward with your review of Peoplesoft software products and other ERP solution options, it may help to understand some of these evolutions in a broader context.

The earliest ERP business solutions were implemented in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the manufacturing sector. Operations managers in that sector were searching at the time for a way to coordinate and streamline complex activities on factory shop floors, which often required the input of multiple departments. But prior to the arrival of integrated business solutions, departments typically controlled their functions using separate isolated software platforms. This made certain activities like ordering, receiving, and assembly more complex and error prone, it held back productivity and it prevented departments from sharing data without complex data conversion software. Once integrated solutions were in place, all departments could coordinate their functions and employees could share access to secure collective databases that could be updated in real time. Now the popularity of these systems is shifting downstream, from high end to smaller business markets.
