Can today’s business do without manufacturing software? This question seems almost rhetorical in nature. Of course it can’t! Manufacturing software is the gasoline that runs the production lines but as with gasoline, developers are always looking for ways to stretch the mileage or, in the case of software improve the application and increase the efficiency of production. The idea is to lower costs to increase profits. Manufacturing SoftwareCan Today’s Business Do Without Manufacturing Software?Manufacturing software is the logical result of the ongoing technological and industrial revolution that began when Eli Whitney introduced the cotton gin. Process cotton better and faster and cotton becomes king, produce models T’s better and faster and at lower cost and the world becomes a world on wheels and apply those principles to virtually every mass produced product using continuously improving technology and manufacturing software and markets are blown wide open for anyone who has the price of the product. Society has many more “needs” today than in the past and the demand to produce is high. While brooms are still necessary in the home – the vacuum cleaner is nearly as indispensible. In consumption drive North America, the complexity of even a vacuum cleaner makes robust manufacturing software as essential an ingredient for success as the plastic for the hoses or metal for the motor housing. Yet, there was a time when that noisy contraption was viewed as a novelty available only to the privileged. The same can be said for manufacturing software. While there was a time when the prohibitive pricing of manufacturing software restricted it to use by the largest manufacturers of goods, manufacturing software packages are now within reach of virtually any company. Consistency of product drives return business and small to midsize manufacturing concerns know this better than anyone. It has become too risky to expect that humans on the line or as individual crafters can maintain that consistency without the assistance of manufacturing software. Further, the production levels needed to meet the demand cannot be met by mere mortals. Manufacturing software is the answer. Manufacturing software can be customized for specific industries, batches and SOPs. FDA regulations can be automatically calculated in to food and beverage production using manufacturing software and minimizing violation risks. Without manufacturing software, the production business would still be as much in The Jungle , as the novel of the same name by Upton Sinclair. Manufacturing software is as much an ingredient in the manufacturing process as flour is to Wonder Bread. |
