The success of PeopleSoft ERP Software attracted the attention of competitors, and, in 2003 –most likely as a direct result of having been overtaken in the market plus the sixteen percent revenue growth PeopleSoft experienced that year- software giant Oracle Corporation began to maneuver for control of PeopleSoft. In June of that year, Oracle bid for PeopleSoft in a hostile corporate takeover attempt. In February 2004, Oracle increased the initial bid to nine billion dollars, which represent an increase of a full thirty-three percent.  The PeopleSoft Board of Directors promptly rejected this second bid also.   

Finally, at the end of 2004, PeopleSoft ultimately agreed to the purchase price of ten billion dollars offered by Oracle. Oracle completed the acquisition of the company in January 2005.
