The Use of ERP Software Systems in the Video-Game Industry (PART II)

How ERP System-Based Video Games Are Transforming the Workplace in Diverse Industries

The main reason for the current change to a more lax approach on the part of the managerial levels, with respect to the needs of its employees, are the beneficial psychological and physiological effects video games have been known to have on individuals as a whole, and not just in the workplace. Especially when used by companies which embody ERP software systems in their video game functions and deployment, they introduce an element of novelty which had been previously ignored by industries in general, and which has many other beneficial applications aside from that of training the workforce.

Primarily, and connected to a factor of critical importance because of its impact on employee focus and job performance, it is well known that video-games help in reducing stress levels by taking the mind away from job-related issues during breaks for job pauses. Logically, they also train the brain to focus and be more attentive to detail, subsequently improving overall daily job performance, as well as social interaction with other workers and with the managerial levels.

Within this context, of special interest is the case of three major franchises that utilize customized video game programs based on ERP software systems technology for a variety of applications, and not just for employee training. In 2006 it was announced in Bloomberg/Business Week that this is a growing trend within varied industries. But it is by no means new to the industry as a whole, since video games for training the workforce have been in use since the 1980s.

One of the most determining implications of this trend brought about by the use of ERP software systems in video-game technology, is that it brings together and bridges the interests of businesses from multiple industries - some of which may normally be considered to have little relation to the high-tech and IT industry, or, in any case, their involvement in the software industry is believed to be peripheral or minimal and normally confined to traditional, simple and relatively static uses, such as e-mail or website development and maintenance, or accounting software.

Of course, the development of such a situation evinces a high level of global diversification in the business world, which is primarily due to the widespread purchase and deployment of ERP software systems by the most varied businesses operating in different industries, and also, undoubtedly, thanks to the vital importance of Internet technology in general and online database programs which are at the heart of any successful business enterprise.
