ERP SystemsEnterprise Resource Planning Systems Administration by a Third Party Off-ShoreMore and more often, businesses are choosing to outsource their information technology (IT) support and with it, the administration of their enterprise resource planning systems. While, in the past, some may have viewed this practice as a cause for concern from a security standpoint, the word “outsource” may strike even greater fears into pounding hearts. With the American economy in its present state, to outsource high paying, enterprise resource planning systems administration and IT support jobs off-shore, is a very sensitive subject. The economy is no longer a country specific term. It has come to have global meaning and as such, blurred the divisions once represented by time and location considerations. The internet affords the world instantaneous communications. For technicians located on the other side of the world to administer and support computer systems in the U.S. has become commonplace. While most businesses would still rather to have their computer support located in the same country, the money saved by off-shoring enterprise planning systems administration and other technology support functions, makes more cash flow available to be put to use in other areas of the business. Saving the company the large salaries and benefits packages of an IT department frees up funds to be spent on other areas of research and development, marketing and getting newly developed product to market. For some companies, the above benefits outweigh the trade-offs and inconveniences caused by great distance. For the most part, troubleshooting of enterprise resource planning systems can be handled remotely. Internet efficiency has improved THAT much over the past few years. It is certainly possible to script updates to run automatically and push out security patches as necessary. Re-defining and creating shares within a system does not require the physical presence of the administration team. There is no reason for a server farm to be on-sight and it can even preferable for this infrastructure to be located elsewhere when it comes to a disaster recovery plan. Installing software, configuration changes, script implementation, all can be handled off-site. It is little wonder then, that business is increasingly open to this model for systems administration. Experts around the world are available to administer whatever enterprise resource planning systems are present at any given organization. It is truly a global economy and the lightning speed at which internet communications are improving every moment does more and more to shrink the distance between businesses around the world. |
