New Distribution ERP Software and the Recipe for Success

Purchasing a distribution ERP software package is one step toward increased efficiency and profits for any company making that financial commitment. This complex and often expensive tool promises great payoffs in the long run but sound business practices reside at the core of business success regardless of which software package or packages a company chooses.

Preparation for rolling out new distribution ERP software is a lot of work but it is also a time of great opportunity. The hackneyed saying, “garbage in, garbage out” could not be more relevant.  This is a company’s chance to clean data house. Now is the time to validate and clean up the data that is on file. For new software to fulfill expectations, the data on which it relies has to be accurate and clean.  This is the perfect time to check, verify, archive and purge.

While it is sometimes difficult to let go of hard files, paper records have become all but antiquated. Other than original signature bearing contracts, there is virtually no paperwork that needs to physically exist.  Distribution ERP Software is a tool that helps modern business get eliminate stacks and stacks of paper in favor of electronic records that do the same thing.  Scanned images have become acceptable and legally binding.  Just be sure that organization rules the electronic file system.

Entering data relevant to distribution ERP software functions is often automated as well.  Bar codes and scanners now grab vital information, freeing up employees for more forward looking endeavors and customer service. Tracking down an order and where it is in the process will be done with the click of a mouse once the new distribution ERP software is up and running so it is most important that business processes become more efficient.  Best practices and lean operations should be the focus of staff members and using distribution ERP software as a tool for employing best practices is dependent on the quality of data.

Re-visit and re-vamp business processes, now.  Functions are interconnected, dependent on one and other.  Streamlining practices and eliminating wasted effort will go far towards increasing the company’s bottom line.  Distribution is the cherry on top of the customer service cake.  If a customer waits too long to get a slice, it may be too old to eat or at the very least have lost some of its flavor. Using the best ingredients most efficiently ensures return business and customer referrals.
